The husband was living abroad.
The marriage had ended through a divorce in the USA.
The parties had also entered into a Property Settlement Agreement, and the judgment records that a settlement amount of US$15,000 had been paid.
Most people would assume the dispute was finished.
It wasn't.
According to the Delhi High Court record, the complaint in India was not withdrawn. An FIR under Sections 498A/406/34 IPC was subsequently registered at PS Kirti Nagar on 18 December 2020, almost a year after the foreign divorce. The petitioners approached the Delhi High Court seeking quashing of the FIR and consequential proceedings.
This is where an ordinary matrimonial dispute becomes a very different problem for an NRI husband.
There may now be:
a foreign divorce,
a property settlement,
an Indian CAW Cell/police complaint,
an FIR,
and potentially Indian court proceedings.

“Who is right?”
It becomes:
What was agreed?
What was signed?
What was paid?
What was disclosed to the Indian authorities?
